About the Artist

Born in Florida, Linda Batchelor was influenced by her artist-mother amid the lush colors of the semi-tropics and the boomerang shapes and geometric patterns common in the 1950s. Though she has created work in many different media she has concentrated for the last ten years on printmaking, primarily monotypes and relief prints, and collage. With a focus on colors and patterns, Batchelor creates works ranging from stylized bottles and figures to completely abstract pieces. Bill Rodriguez, a reviewer for “The Providence Phoenix”, says Batchelor “…places angular bottles against patterned backgrounds…[Her] flamboyant gypsy color contrasts make her pictures quite reviewable”.

Batchelor has exhibited her work both regionally and nationally in galleries and shows. She is represented by Jacqueline Becker Fine Art Consulting of Newton, MA and Laurie Grossman of Weston, MA. She was chosen by Joan Moser, Curator of Graphic Arts, Smithsonian Art Museum, for the Monotype Guild of New England’s “Coming of Age” traveling portfolio. She also received a prize at the Cambridge Art Association National Prize Show juried by Marc Pachter of the National Portrait Gallery, Washington D. C.

Batchelor is a graduate of Brown University in Providence RI and has continued her studies at Maryland Institute of Art, The University of Massachusetts, and with Liz Chalfin of Zea Mays Printmaking Studios. She now resides in Florence, MA and has a studio at One Cottage Street Studios, Easthampton, MA.
